Usability

Watching your customers pays off. The more you watch people interact with your product, web site or concept, the more you learn.

Using a variety of usability testing techniques, I can help you gain valuable insight into how your users work and play. No matter what stage of development you are at, I can help you find the right usability testing technique and help you plan, facilitate, and report on the tests including:

  • Determining testing objectives
  • Screening for and recruiting the right participants
  • Defining the right tasks
  • Creating a test plan and test materials
  • Facilitating the tests
  • Analyzing the results
  • Capturing and reporting on tests including design recommendations
  • Creating video highlight presentations to share with your organization

Prototype Testing

The sooner you find out how people interact with your site, product or application the better. I can help you plan and execute paper prototype tests, and all stages of interactive prototype testing.
Do you have wireframes and specs but need help creating a prototype to test? I can help with that as well.

RITE Testing

Need to get your design right, fast? RITE (Rapid, Iterative Testing and Evaluation) may be just the answer.
I can run a few participants through some tasks with your prototype, quickly identify some problem areas,  then we can take a day or so to redesign and then test with a few more people.
If you’ve never done RITE testing before, you’ll be amazed at the progress you can make in a week or so.

Out of Box Experience Testing

You only get one chance to create a first impression.
Do you know what happens when people first open your product, and try to install and use it? Can they find all the pieces? Do they know how to install all the latest software and firmware patches? Does your manual provide them with the information they need during those first crucial hours?
If you aren’t sure, let’s talk about how to find the right people and perform some out of box testing.

Diary Studies

Do you need to know how people interact with your application over a longer period of time? Then maybe a diary study is what you need.
I can help you organize a series of tests and feedback mechanisms that allow participants to work with your product for of a number of days or weeks, and provide you with feedback along the way.

Expert (Heuristic) Reviews

An expert review can be a great way to lead off a usability testing cycle, or a quick feedback option when you don’t have the time or budget for a usability test cycle. I’ll go through your site or application and provide feedback on potential usability issues. And of course I’ll provide you with some potential solutions.
